In short: everything here is provided “as is”, with no warranty of any kind. The numbers come from manufacturer datasheets and third-party uploads and can be wrong. Nothing on this site is engineering advice. You must verify every value yourself and have designs approved by a licensed professional. FirstPoint Energy accepts no liability whatsoever for anything that results from using this site, its data or the API. If you do not agree, do not use them.
1. Acceptance
These terms govern your use of the FirstPoint Solar Panel String Sizer (the “Tool”), the solar panel database behind it (the “Data”) and the Panel Database API (the “API”), together the “Service”, operated by FirstPoint Energy (“FirstPoint”, “we”, “us”). By opening the Tool, downloading or viewing the Data, requesting an API key or making an API call, you accept these terms on your own behalf and on behalf of any organisation you act for. If you do not accept them, you must not use the Service.
2. What the Service is
The Tool estimates how many solar panels can be connected per string to an inverter or charge controller, using electrical ratings from the Data and temperatures you supply. The Data is a collection of panel specifications transcribed from manufacturer datasheets and from documents uploaded by users and partners, some by automated extraction. The API gives programmatic access to the Data and lets approved partners add to it. The Service is an informational aid only.
3. No warranty
The Service and everything it contains or returns are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty, condition or representation of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory or otherwise, including any warranty of accuracy, completeness, currency, reliability, merchantability, satisfactory quality, non-infringement, uninterrupted or error-free operation, or fitness for any particular purpose. Values may be incorrect, incomplete, superseded by newer datasheet revisions, mis-transcribed or mis-extracted. Entries marked “unverified” have not been reviewed by anyone. Sizing results are estimates that ignore many real-world factors. We may change, suspend, restrict or withdraw the Service, any Data or any API key at any time without notice.
4. Not advice; your responsibilities
Nothing in the Service is engineering, electrical, safety, financial or other professional advice, and no professional relationship is created by your use of it. You are solely responsible for:
- verifying every value you rely on against the manufacturer’s current datasheet, the inverter or charge controller manual, and all applicable codes, standards and utility requirements;
- the correctness of all inputs, including site temperatures, mounting method and equipment selection;
- having every design reviewed and approved by a suitably licensed professional and by the authority having jurisdiction before any equipment is purchased, installed, connected or energised; and
- everything you build, sell, install or publish using the Service or the Data.
5. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, FirstPoint and its owners, directors, employees, contractors, contributors, licensors and suppliers (the “FirstPoint Parties”) shall not be liable to you or to anyone else for any loss, damage, injury, death, cost or expense of any kind — whether direct, indirect, incidental, special, exemplary, punitive or consequential, and including loss of profit, revenue, business, goodwill or data, equipment damage, fire, electrical hazard, failed inspections, rework or personal injury — arising out of or in connection with the Service, the Data, the API, any reliance on them, any error or omission in them, or any inability to use them, however caused and under any theory of liability (contract, tort including negligence, statute or otherwise), even if a FirstPoint Party was advised of the possibility of such loss. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the greater of the amount you paid to FirstPoint for the Service in the twelve months before the claim (which is nil for free use) and CAD $100. Your sole and exclusive remedy for any dissatisfaction with the Service is to stop using it.
6. Indemnity
You will defend, indemnify and hold harmless the FirstPoint Parties from and against all claims, demands, losses, liabilities, damages, costs and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from or related to your use of the Service or the Data, your breach of these terms, or any product, design, installation, advice or service you provide that relies in whole or in part on the Service or the Data, including claims by your customers, end users, installers, insurers or regulators.
7. Uploads and contributions
If you upload a datasheet or add a panel, you confirm that you have the right to do so and you grant FirstPoint a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, reproduce, extract, publish and distribute that document and the data derived from it as part of the Service, including to other users and API consumers. Uploaded documents are served publicly. Contributed entries are marked unverified until reviewed; review does not make them warranted. We may edit or remove any contribution at any time.
8. API keys and acceptable use
- Keys are issued at our discretion, are personal to the partner they were issued to, and may not be shared, sublicensed, resold or embedded in publicly readable code.
- Use the API fairly: page through results rather than repeatedly downloading the whole database, keep sustained traffic modest, and do not attempt to circumvent limits, authentication or other controls.
- Do not use the Service to build a competing panel database, to misrepresent the Data as your own or as verified, or for anything unlawful.
- We may suspend or revoke any key at any time, with or without notice or reason.
9. Passing these terms on
If you present the Data, or results derived from it, to your own users, you must convey the substance of sections 3 to 5 to them, must not describe the Data as verified or as suitable for any particular installation, and should credit FirstPoint Energy as the source.
10. Third-party content
Datasheets and manufacturer websites belong to their respective owners, are provided for reference only, and are not endorsed or verified by FirstPoint. The Tool is an independent rebuild; it is not affiliated with or endorsed by any inverter, energy-controller or panel manufacturer whose products appear in it (including EG4 Electronics, Sol-Ark and Sigenergy), and their trademarks remain their property.
11. Changes
We may update these terms at any time by posting a new version at this address. Continued use after a change means you accept it. The “last updated” date above tells you when they changed.
12. General
These terms are the whole agreement between you and FirstPoint about the Service and are governed by the laws of Canada and of the province in which FirstPoint Energy has its principal place of business, whose courts have exclusive jurisdiction. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our not enforcing a term is not a waiver of it. Questions about these terms can be sent through firstpoint.energy.
